What is DDay?

D-Day is the day on which the Allies landed in Normandy, France, during World War II. The Allies fought a series of battles, including the Battle of Normandy and the Battle of Utah Beach, to control the Western front and bring victory to their side.

What was the first day of the Dutch War of Independence?

On the first day of the Dutch War of Independence, the Dutch people rose up against their Spanish occupiers and declared themselves a republic. This event is commonly know as D Day.

The Battle of Boyne

On June 6, 1944, the United States and the United Kingdom attacked Normandy, France, during World War II. The battle was fought to end Nazi Germany's rule over Europe and protect Allied forces as they crossed the English Channel.
The action began with a huge expenditure of manpower by both sides as each side tried to achieve an advantage in numbers and firepower. By the end of the day, almost 400,000 people had been killed in what is generally considered one of history's most successful landings.

Today, D-Day is celebrated annually as an event that helped secure Allied victory against Nazi Germany. In commemoration of the event, D-Day Google Maps has been updated with a recreation of Omaha Beach where part of the original invasion force landed.

The Hague Treaty

The Hague Treaty was a treaty signed on April 6, 1945, in The Hague, Netherlands, between the United States of America and the United Kingdom. It provided for the end of World War II and the surrender of Japan.

The Battle of Emsland

On July 6, 1944, American and British forces landed on the Normandy beaches in France, leading to the European War. The Battle of Emsland was fought between the Allies and the German Third Reich during World War II. The battle resulted in a massive Allied victory, and helped secure Allied control over much of Europe.

The Battle of Arnhem

On July 20, 1944, the Allies were able to launch an amphibious assault on the German-held city of Arnhem. The successful attack led to a strategic victory for the Allies and forced Germany to enter into a surrender agreement. In commemoration of this event, D-Day is celebrated annually as a national holiday in many countries.

The Liberation of Arnhem

On the day of the battle of Arnhem, Allied forces liberated the town from Nazi occupation. The event is celebrated each year on May 6th as D Day.
