Butler of Magnolia, Arkansas, who died unexpectedly on August 13, 2017. Calhoun, Cleveland, Columbia, Dallas, Ouachita, and Union counties comprise the 13th Judicial District in south Arkansas. Shepherd formerly worked in Union County as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, prosecuting a wide range of criminal cases. Shepherd is also a partner with the El Dorado-based legal firm Shepherd & Shepherd, P.A. Shepherd, a native of El Dorado, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Rice University in Houston, Texas, where he was a member of the Owls football team. Shepherd returned to Arkansas to get his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from the University of Arkansas School of Law, where he also served as the Managing Editor of the Arkansas Law Review.

His father, stepfather, Gerald Eggleston, and niece, Kristen Butler, all died before him.

His wife of 39 years, Vicki Butler of Magnolia, survives him, as do his daughters, Stephanie Clayton and husband Doug Clayton of Aspen, Colorado, and Sydney Butler and Lesley Butler, both of Fayetteville; his mother; stepmother, Jean Butler; siblings, Dr. Rob Butler and wife Sharon of Magnolia, Chris Butler and wife Deborah Butler of El Dorado, Sarah Jennings and husband Steve of Magnolia, and Dr. Michael Eggleston and wife Blythe of Fayetteville; and a host of
