Where Should Ortho Weed Killer Be Used? Regular Weed-B-Gon and Southern lawn formulas can be used on a variety of grasses, including Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis), which grows best in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 through 7; perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne, zones 5-7); fescue (Festuca spp., zones 4-7); Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon, zones 7-10); bahia (Paspalum not (Stenotaphrum secundatum, zones 8-10). Weed-B-Gon products should not be used on the Floratam variety of St. Augustine grass (Stenotaphrum secundatum 'Floratam'). Is it necessary to remove the black rubber washer before using the product so that the water can mix with it?

Expert opinion: Thank you for contacting us. We contacted the manufacturer to get a better answer to your question. According to the manufacturer, all you have to do is turn the white button at the top to the 'on' position. This will combine the water and the herbicide. There is no need to remove the black rubber washer because doing so will cause water and solution to spew out. If you only need to spray water, press the white 'water' button. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you. Have a wonderful day!!

I was astounded by the number of positive reviews on Amazon for this product (Weed B Gon plus crabgrass control). So I went ahead and bought it, and I'm glad I did! This was delivered on 6/23, and I mixed up a batch right away to start taking care of the crabgrass. By early July, I noticed that some of the crabgrass was turning yellow. On 7/3, I made another batch and sprayed the same areas. It's now 7/10, and the crabgrass areas I sprayed in the yard are nearly completely brown and dead! My Bahia, Centipede, and St. Augustine grasses were unaffected by this product. Other weeds, such as chickweed and spurge, have vanished. Please keep in mind that I followed the recipe exactly. Others have had success by mixing a higher concentration, but I felt that a second application and more time would be the most effective, and it certainly has! This product will undoubtedly aid in preventing "fall weeds" from destroying my lawn before the following spring.

Dilute one ounce of the standard Weed-B-Gon Max concentrate with one gallon of water when treating bentgrass, centipede grass, or St.Augustine grass.

Use 2 ounces of fertilizer per gallon of water for all other types of grass.

Spray the area lightly after adjusting the spray nozzle to a focused or wider pattern, depending on whether you're treating a single weed or several weeds.

Sprayers that can be held in one's hand or worn on the back should mix 125 milliliters of concentrate with one liter of water. Adjust the nozzle setting to a coarser setting to reduce drift. Apply the blended solution at a rate of between 100 and 400 ml/m2.
