This round was divided by percentages of screen time. If a monster appears on screen for 30 minutes in a 100-minute film, it signifies they appear for 30 percent of the film's duration. It would not be fair to tally up screen time since Godzilla has been in many more films. So we discovered and used several extremely trustworthy sources, as well as previous Rotten Tomatoes editorials, to arrive at our figures (the latter also explains why more on-screen time is better in monster movies). The initial films of Godzilla and Kong offered us a clear indication of who would win this round. King Kong went rampant for 18 of the film's 125 minutes in 1933. In contrast, Godzilla appeared for barely eight minutes of his 98-minute premiere in 1954. When they clashed in 1962, King Kong appeared for 16 minutes whereas Godzilla only appeared for nine. Kong has traditionally had greater screen time, and this tendency continues in the MonsterVerse, with Kong appearing for 14 minutes in Kong: Skull Island, whereas Godzilla appears for just 22 minutes in Godzilla (10) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (12). Kong is victorious!

Even if you haven't watched the original 1962 King Kong vs. Godzilla, you've almost certainly seen the scene when Kong Kong shoves a whole tree down Godzilla's throat. It's breathtaking. It has surpassed its GIF base material. So you undoubtedly got a kick out of the scene in Adam Wingard's Godzilla vs. Kong when Kong goes back to his old antics and drives his newfangled ax straight down Godzilla's gullet. When Collider spoke with Wingard recently, we had to question whether the tribute was on purpose.

Adam Wingard was named as the director of Godzilla vs. Kong in May 2017.

[37] Wingard was originally considered by Peter Jackson to helm a sequel to his unproduced 2005 version of King Kong.

[38] Mary Parent approached Wingard with the concept, claiming, "I grabbed it right away. I couldn't resist playing both roles in one picture and being the director who gets to solve the age-old issue of "Who would win?"" Wingard underlined his desire for fans to emotionally connect in the monsters as people, as well as his desire for the conflict to have a clear winner. [40] [41] Wingard prepared by viewing all of the Godzilla and King Kong movies. Wingard had previously imagined the climactic fight taking place in a "synthwave-style futuristic metropolis background" before obtaining a screenplay. He selected this because he like electronic video game music and 1980s film themes, he said "My concept really began there. How do we have these two monsters battling on the cover of a synthwave album?" Wingard also indicated that the picture will be set in the present day, tie up with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and feature a "more rougher, a little more aged Kong." [43]

Is it necessary to put back the tree scene in Godzilla vs. Kong? Should it instead have its own tree scene? What do you want to see in the quadrilogy's last battle? Kong's Bicentennial The new picture is reminiscent of more than only Tohos horror flicks. Several scenes in Godzilla vs. Kong seem to reflect imagery from King Kong's groovy 1976 remake. The image of a sad Kong confined aboard a ship bringing him over the ocean to an unknown planet is practically a carbon copy of filmmaker John Guillermin's bicentennial monster film. Similarly, the picture at the opening of Godzilla vs. Kong of Kong swimming in a waterfall echoes the famous scene in the 1976 film of Kong bathing Jessica Lange under a similar waterfall. Kong's fight with the flying snake-like Warbats in the new film also replicates numerous exact moments from Kong's confrontation with a massive snake in the 1976 film.

For select sequences, a 2-shaku (Japanese foot) miniature replica of Kong and a stick-manipulated upper body puppet were also made. A "muppet" of Kong's upper torso was made to depict the monster's facial emotions in close-up shots, and it was utilized in the scene when he consumes Farolacton juice from jars and in his struggle with the Giant Octopus. A Kong stop-motion puppet was also made, although it was only used for one stop-motion scene in which Godzilla throws a severe drop-kick to Kong's chest. King Kong and the Giant Octopus have two shaku models.
